A wedding in the family is always a great excuse to bring family together, and when Adam's schedule allows for some time off we run with it. So on our way to Aunt Ruthanna's wedding last weekend, we stopped by Chicago to visit some of Adam's college friends. Sadly, my camera is struggling to rid itself of sand acquired from the Fort Flagler trip so I am sans camera. I did manage to catch a few from the phone camera, though the quality is wanting. Still, I really enjoyed the chance to just be in the moment instead of trying to capture every moment.
We met up halfway with Johnny Z, a friend of Adam's from Boy Scout camp who happens to be working as a resident director at Indiana University. Reunions with camp friends are always entertaining. :) Then we swung by Notre Dame to say hi to the campus. I love how much history the place has for us as a family, in addition to the four years Adam spent there. Our first summer married was at Notre Dame, a wonderfully relaxing time while Adam was preparing to start power school that fall. Weddings almost annually have brought us back regularly, and it's fun to watch the kids grow. There's a picture of Elena on this swing when she was about Madeleine's age, it's really striking to see the years go by so fast.
I was worried Madeleine was getting burned, but it turns out she was just really hot.

We circled back to Chicago to spend the next few days relaxing at Jamie and Elizabeth's. We had a great time as they showed us around town, with Matt and Kat also in on the party. I think one of the signs of great friendship is how easily it feels you've never been apart. Those jump right back where they left off. Also, kudos to the boys for picking great wives... it makes the roomie reunions a blast for us too! :)

After a day at the (free!) Chicago zoo, we headed to the beach after dinner. Makes me love midwest summers! Elena was so tired she fell asleep on the drive there, and didn't wake up till we got back home. So funny. :)
Madeleine had so much fun exploring! Several times she was crawling
along and face planted her whole face in the sand. The second time
was definitely on purpose. :)
