Coast to Coast (Part 2)

Picture overload? We're only halfway there!
(scroll down for the first part of the trip)

Recap: We started in Connecticut, went down, then up, then back down. Next we headed further south to Arizona.

Here's trusty Lucille, taking a breather somewhere in western Arizona.

She's a cutie!

Entertaining ourselves. :)

Next stop: Glendale, AZ
We stopped off outside of Phoenix to visit Cory and Athena, friends from Western. It really is an amazing feeling to have friendly faces in practically every corner of the United States. Plus, they are expecting their first in August so it was fun discussing parenting and pregnancy.

Athena and both babies. :D

And then... our biggest challenge yet: Hike the Grand Canyon!
20 miles round trip, one day, one baby, lots of water and snacks, two crazy parents.
But we did it! It was unbelievable, and totally worth it. It's impossible to really capture the canyon views on camera. Even standing in the middle of it all, it felt unreal.

It was chilly at the top, but not for long once you dropped into the canyon.

Working our way down.

Our fearless explorer. :) You can see the Colorado River in the background!

A few of the many switchbacks we encountered.

Taking a breather. Elena did a great job! She slept most of the way down, and really only got cranky for the last few miles. But I was cranky too, so we won't hold that against her. :)

Happy baby!

For most of the trip I had Elena in her pack and Adam had a backpack of supplies, but the last two miles were brutal. So Adam took the baby on the front and the backpack on the back. What a man (that's why I married him). :)

We made it!

After the Grand Canyon, it was a leisurely drive over to San Francisco. That was definitely the happiest I had ever been to just sit in a car all day. :) We have a lot of family in the area, from both sides, so we got to spend the next few days relaxing and visiting.

My Grandma Pat with her great-grand baby.

Obligatory Easter pose. :)

Having fun with a great Aunt Nancy.

Exploring the downtown a bit.

Baby's first time in Chinatown (how come there's no entry for that in her baby book?)

We also met up with our friend David, who's doing his grad studies at Stanford. Elena did not get the group shot memo.

Play date with Uncle Sean and Sinead! I love this picture of the two dads and their little girls. :)

Phew, that's it! Now I remember why it took me a month to get these pictures up, there were a lot of them! After San Francisco, it was a straight shot home. We bee lined it overnight (much easier to beeline with a sleeping baby) with just a stop on the Washington border for lunch with our friend James.

Alright, see you in another few months! Just kidding... :)

If it weren't for the fact that I didn't already have the cutest niece (and soon to have the cutest nephew), I would say that Elena is the cutest little baby in the world. She looked so happy in these pictures! (Well most of them.) Glad to have you back in the same state! Now we just have to work on that being on the same side of it thing... :)
