Hotel Life

Time flies by so fast! It seems like we just moved to Groton, but Adam is already almost halfway through his ten week officer course here. After that we're headed out to Bremerton, WA where we'll be stationed for the next few years. I'm very excited to be in one place for so long.

Since our time here in Groton is so short, the Navy put us up in a hotel on base. Obviously, this has its benefits and drawbacks. There is the whole complimentary house-cleaning and bedmaking, but they have a tendency to come right during a baby snack-time or nap. Five weeks in, and I'm still trying to figure out how to work our schedule into theirs. Oh well. Also, cooking is very much more complicated without a stove or oven. But we brought up our crock pot, and it's been a lot of fun exploring all the possibilities of that handy device. It's pretty incredible! We've made bread, lasagna, stew, even hard-boiled eggs. Today for dinner we had shredded bbq beef sandwiches. Yum!

All in all, it's been really nice here. Adam rarely has to work past 2pm, and usually gets to come home for lunch. But the best part? His classroom is two buildings over, so his commute is just a five minute walk to work. That's definitely worth living in a hotel!

Elena's been really great throughout all these recent changes. She was starting to get a little grumpy after all the travelling to Seattle and Florida during the holidays, but who can blame her? Even a laid-back little baby has her limits. :) Now that we're settled into the hotel, though, she seems to have found her own schedule again. Every morning she's my little alarm clock at 8:30 or 9 (I'm very grateful her internal clock didn't pick something earlier). A morning and afternoon nap or two, lots of play time, snack times, and diaper changes, and she's usually conked out for the night by 9 or 11pm. We don't have any set schedule for Elena because she seems to be doing fine on her own, but she is a stickler for meal times. A very hungry ninja, I guess.

Her next doctor's appointment is coming up on Thursday, so it'll be fun to see how much she's changed since last time. Until then, here are a few recent shots.
